This 3D Koi Fish Mandala is built from seven layers of laser-cut birch plywood. It depicts two koi in a Yin-Yang circle, finished in contrasting oak and walnut stains. A textured, substantial piece that brings natural warmth and depth to your wall.
The circular arrangement of the two Koi represents the Taoist principle of Yin and Yang—balance through opposites. In Japanese culture, Koi specifically symbolize perseverance because they are known to swim upstream against strong currents. We combined these traditions into a single design, using the natural grain of the wood to mimic the flow of water around the fish.

The process starts with a digital vector file separated into seven depth maps. A high-power laser cuts each 3mm sheet with 0.1mm precision, searing the edges dark brown. We then hand-stain specific layers before gluing them under pressure. This alignment must be perfect; a millimeter off disrupts the entire 3D effect.

21mm thickness creates natural shadows that shift with the light.

Includes a pre-installed mount for flush wall installation.

Birch grain remains visible through the oak and walnut stains.
